Director of Nursing POSITION PURPOSE: The Director of Nursing plans, organizes, develops and directs the overall operations of the Nursing Department in accordance with current Federal, State, and Local standards, guidelines and regulations that govern our Facility, and as may be directed by the Administrator and the Medical Director, to ensure that the highest degree of quality of care is maintained at all times. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES: Directs the Nursing Department, programs and activities, ensuring the highest degree of quality resident care. Interviews, hires, orients, trains, schedules, assigns work to, evaluates, and when necessary, disciplines assigned staff members.Develops, implements, updates, and coordinates departmental policies and procedures, budgets, care plans, nursing procedure manuals, job descriptions and other related materials.Develops and implements short- and long- term goals and objectives for the Nursing Department. Participates in the initial resident screening process with the Director of Admissions and the Administrator to assure appropriate placement.Monitors Nursing Department procedures and operations on a daily basis to assure compliance with Federal and State rules and regulations, Facility policy. Prepares reports and keeps Administrator informed of the operations of Nursing Department services.Interacts with residents, families and/or visitors to solve problems, maintain goodwill, and promote excellent customer service.Assists physicians in planning for the individual resident care.Acts as Facility's Risk Manager.Oversee medical and non-medical emergencies. DECISIONS MADE: The Director of Nursing exercises independent discretion and judgment in developing nursing policies and procedures; hiring within the Nursing Department; employee discipline, determining nursing budgeted items for departmental operations, and final scheduling and annual leave usage approvals. The Director of Nursing will oversee and monitor medical and non-medical emergencies. CONTACT WITH OTHERS: Work involves a high degree of contact with department supervisors, administration, physicians and other medical, professional, and technical employees for specific care needs and assignments of treatments and medications. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Considerable knowledge of professional nursing theory, principles and practices.Knowledge of regulations and epartmental and Facility policies.Knowledge of human anatomy and physiology.Knowledge of drugs, narcotics and other medications for use on specific diagnoses.Ability to formulate and implement policies.Ability to deal with the medical staff, residents, visitors and employees.Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.Ability to supervise, assign work, and maintain high morale in the Nursing Department. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination of training and experience equivalent to: Graduation from a four-year college or university with a degree in Nursing. Four years of progressively responsible nursing experience in a large medicare-certified facility, including at least three years of supervisory experience.Prefer three years experience as a Director of Nursing in a 120 bed or larger medicare-certified facility.Bachelor of Arts in Nursing is preferred. ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to sit, stand, and walk intermittently throughout the day. NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Current licensure as a Registered Nurse issued by the State of Florida Board Department of Health. Category: Healthcare , Keywords: Nursing Director
