Job Summary As an Assistant Professor and Foundations Coordinator in the Two-Dimensional Art and Design Foundations area you will teach a range of courses serving undergraduate B.A. degree programs in Art and Digital Media Design; be closely involved with curriculum development at the course and program level; participate in program and departmental meetings; advance your research/creative scholarship agenda; and pursue service opportunities to the University and community. In consultation with the faculty, the Foundations Coordinator will evolve the curriculum to respond to developments in art and design pedagogy, and actively assist with recruitment and retention of B.A. Art and B.A. Digital Media Design students. Florida Gulf Coast University is a comprehensive university dedicated to quality education, research, and service. All faculty are expected to be excellent teachers, responsive to changing professional needs; committed to innovative delivery of instruction resulting in improved student learning; produce peer reviewed scholarship appropriate to the discipline; and provide service to the College, University and Community. Ranked faculty typically teach three courses each fall and spring semester, with additional summer teaching contracts available on a limited basis. Teaching assignments may be on the main campus or at off-campus sites within our region. Job Description Typical duties include but are not limited to: - Teaches a range of undergraduate courses. - Closely involved with curriculum development at the course and program level. - Participates in program and departmental meetings. - Pursues research/creative scholarship. - Offer service to the University and community as needed. Additional Job Description Required Qualifications: - MFA in Studio Art or related fields from a regionally accredited institution or equivalent accreditation - Two years college/university teaching experience beyond the graduate assistant level with a demonstrated commitment to quality undergraduate education - Demonstrated experience and ability to teach a range of foundations studio classes including drawing and design - Demonstrated experience with digital media in teaching and in personal studio work - Knowledge of current and emerging practices in the development of art foundations curriculum - Active record of exhibitions and professional engagement Preferred Qualifications: - MFA in Drawing, Painting, Printmaking or related two-dimensional disciplines - Three years full-time teaching experience at the college/university level with an emphasis in studio foundations and demonstrated expertise in drawing, color theory, and design principles - Demonstrated experience in teaching Drawing 1, Drawing II, Two-Dimensional Design and upper-level Figure Drawing - Broad-based expertise in modern and contemporary issues in art and design with a vision for integrating digital skills in studio art practice - Demonstrated experience with course and curriculum development for Art/Design Foundations, and the ability to coordinate teaching staff and curriculum for a cohesive student learning experience - Demonstrated experience with learning management systems and online curriculum delivery - Strong leadership and organizational skills with an understanding of assessment approaches for foundation-level courses and student performance - Commitment to collegial and collaborative engagement with colleagues to support an increasingly diverse, multicultural student population Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: - Experience or commitment to the use of technology in distance learning & university teaching. Interest in collaborating both within and outside the University in the development and delivery of instruction resulting in improved student learning. Must value continued scholarship and service to the school and university. Ability to contribute effectively and collegially to a positive, dynamic, and inclusive learning environment that nurtures student creativity.
