This position is contingent upon Board of County Commissioners
This position reviews residential and/or commercial building
plans for compliance with all building codes and other applicable
County ordinances, in addition to fire codes, life safety codes,
flood ordinances, accessibility codes, fair housing requirements,
Duties and Responsibilities
* Review construction plans for code compliance. * Research
flood, coastal, environmental, zoning, historical, etc.
requirements of applications. * Compose letters addressing code
compliance deficiencies and guidance for compliance. * Be
responsive to customers in providing code clarification, permit
procedures, status of applications, etc. * Communicates with
architects, engineers, designers, inspectors, contractors, owners,
developers, occupants, etc. about code applications,
interpretations, and/or violations.
Education, Experience, Licensing
* Requires any combination of education and experience
equivalent to High School graduation or GED equivalent and four
years in plans review or inspections. * Certification as a Plans
Examiner as issued by the State of Florida through the Florida
Building Code Administrators and Inspectors Board or the ability to
obtain a Provisional Building Plans Examiner license within 90 days
of hire and obtain the Standard Plans Examiner license within one
year is required. * Possession of a valid driver's license with an
acceptable driving record is required. * Must be able to pass a
criminal background check.
* Certification as a Plans Examiner or Inspector by the State of
Florida through the Florida Building Code Administrators and
Inspectors Board or International Code Council (ICC) is preferred.
* Knowledge of modern construction practices, methods and
materials. * Ability to read plans and specifications. * Ability to
establish and maintain effective working relationships with
inspectors, engineers, builders, homeowners and the general public.
* Ability to communicate effectively; verbally and in written form.
* Knowledge of building and fire codes and other county ordinances
is a plus. * Work days and hours are Monday through Friday7:30 a.m.
to 4:30 p.m.
